A floor sealing chemical recently used at the Columbus Museum of Art is causing headaches, nausea and dizziness in employees, according to an OSHA letter sent to the museum and interviews with employees.
The Columbus Museum of Art began renovating galleries in its Ross building in early March, using floor sealing chemical GT 275. Since then, employees and museum guests have complained of dizziness, headaches and nausea, former gallery associate Eric Clift said.
"I think part of some people's concerns is that if they stopped work today and gave us all that information today we can't un-breathe in what we've already ingested and who knows what the long-term ramifications for that could be for particular people," Clift said.
The museum has until March 17 to conduct an investigation into the employees' OSHA complaint. A spokesperson for the museum declined to comment on this story.
