A press event at the Harwood Museum of Art Friday (June 6) offered little further clarity as to where two Taos Society of Artists paintings have been since they disappeared in a brazen daylight heist over 40 years ago. A panel of experts spoke about investigations that led to the discovery of the paintings in the shadow of a more famous art heist believed to have been committed by the same suspected thieves: Jerry and Rita Alter, an unassuming couple who lived quietly outside Cliff, New Mexico for decades. The now-deceased couple’s alleged theft of Willem de Kooning’ Woman Ochre was portrayed in the 2022 documentary film, “The Thief Collector.” https://lnkd.in/gaYJ9NZr
