A rare 64-pound solid silver Abraham Lincoln statue created by Mount Rushmore sculptor Gustav Borglum was stolen from Houmas House on September 6th, 2025. Houmas House officials described it as one of the most cherished items in the historic collection, often noted as a favorite by guests. The statue was created by Danish-American sculptor Gustav Borglum, known for designing the Mount Rushmore monument. “It is extremely rare and was created by Gustav Borglum, of Mount Rushmore fame. Borglum created Mount Rushmore, and the stolen statue was a model of the next president to be carved into the mountain at Mount Rushmore. We would like to have this piece returned,” officials for Houmas House said in a social media post. The stolen piece weighs 64 pounds and is made of solid silver. At the current market price for silver, the statue is estimated to be worth $42,659 based solely on its weight.
