The Cultural Safeguard Alliance (CSA) team had an incredible week, journeying from Seattle back to Los Angeles to engage deeply with the museum community. We proudly moderated the IFMA Los Angeles Chapter Museum event, representing the IFMA Museums/Cultural Institutions Council (MCIC) with passion and expertise. Our visit began with an inspiring tour of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, guided by Ziv Ran, we gained valuable insights into their operations. Next, we explored the California Science Center, setting the stage for an exciting evening panel hosted by Aka Obphrachanh, FMP and Gerardo Perez of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The panel sparked engaging conversations on museum facilities and security management, innovation, and sustainability. Following the event, we had the privilege of visiting the Museum of Tolerance with Todd Lawrence, Marlyn Musicant, and Mark Katrikh. Huge thank you to the team for sharing their remarkable institution with us. Les Borsay from the Getty even introduced the team to the Milk Bar! Our journey continued with a VIP tour back at the Academy Museum, where we experienced the thrilling JAWS exhibit, and we also enjoyed brief visits to the Petersen Automotive Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and the La Brea Tar Pits & Museum. We were honored to have a distinguished group of experts join us for the panel discussion. Bruce Nevel represents the Getty museum, Leonard Redway is from The Japanese American National Museum, and Andrew Robertson is with Bricoleur Architecture. Ben Elisondo comes from The Skirball Cultural Center, Marlyn Musicant is part of The Museum of Tolerance, Jean-Pascal Coutelen represents The Huntington, and Darryl Bell is from The Broad. Their insights and expertise made the event truly impactful and memorable.
