Just two months after it reopened following massive eight-year overhaul, the Studio Museum in Harlem has been forced to temporarily close for roughly 10 days after a reported “sprinkler emergency” that affected the gift shop near the entrance, prompting an evacuation of staff and visitors.
In an email yesterday, the museum said it will remain closed through February 7. According to the notification, the museum will be “work[ing] on repairs related to recent water damage. All programs and events will be cancelled. The museum will resume regular hours, programs, and events when it reopens on Saturday, February 7.” Those who purchased tickets in advance will be refunded.
The museum did not comment further or immediately respond to questions about the extent of the damage and whether any artworks were affected by the sprinkler malfunction.
