Police in the Czech Republic have shot a lion dead after it escaped a zoo enclosure and attacked one of its handlers.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday evening in the village of Zvole, near Prague, with a handler receiving only minor injuries.
It is unclear how the animal managed to break loose, but the zoo has been the subject of complaints over safety and animal welfare for years, according to media, which reported that authorities are investigating the incident.
The zoo’s owner has been criminally charged with general endangerment and animal mistreatment.
The zoo reportedly uses zip ties and nets for some of its structures, with the local government having raised concerns over standards in the past.
