Climate and human rights demonstrators protested outside the Science Museum on Monday evening as the institution hosted a private event for its controversial corporate sponsor, Adani. Coinciding with a series of in-person investor meetings hosted by the Adani Group this week, the reported 50-60 guests attending the “cocktails and canapés” reception were met by activists at the museum entrance, holding a banner which accused the institution of complicity “in human rights abuses, fraud, bribery, climate destruction, [and] genocide”. Adani Green Energy sponsors the space’s Energy Revolution gallery, which explores how the world can generate and use energy more sustainably. But activist group Culture Unstained claims Adani is involved in large-scale coal mining and with Israeli weapons production, calling it “indefensible” for the Science Museum Group (SMG) to host the event in the face of ongoing conflict in Palestine. Meanwhile, Energy Embargo for Palestine, which campaigns against BP’s sponsorship of the British Museum, warned that the event would “alienate staff members and the general public”. https://lnkd.in/gBbYxbqN
